Y7 Boys compete in ESFA District 5-a-side Football
On 4th December the Y7 boys travelled across to Branston to compete in a 5-a-side tournament with the chances of representing Lincoln and Gainsborough district in the next round. The team was made up of 8 players.
The boys started well with a tough first match but unfortunately went down 3-0 to a strong Branston side whose finishing was faultless. A change in formation for the second game against a dominant Christ Hospital team lead to an entertaining game with some well fought battles across the pitch. Unfortunately SRPA conceded a last minute goal resulting in a 3-2 loss. The third game was against against a Priory Pembroke team who had a similar start to us in the competition, SRPA took a early lead but were pegged back to 1-1 after play controversially continued after injury to one of the SRPA players. The game went into the last 30 seconds when SRPA found the back of the net for their first win of the competition. This meant the Y7 Boys needed a win in their final game to progress into the next stages in a very competitive group.
The final game against QEHS from Gainsborough who were arguably the strongest opposition in the group The SRPA team took a commanding and very early 2-0 lead, but with a lot of pressure from QEHS and tiring legs of the SRPA team 2 late goals were conceded meaning a draw and exit from the competition.
The boys from SRPA showed great determination, skill, ability, knowledge and sportsmanship throughout the competition and could of maybe warranted a place in the semi finals had they started the tournament as strongly as they finished it.
